The eyes have it. While this is a take on the usual “ayes have it” from parliamentary procedure, when it comes to the face the eyes do have it. When asked, most people say the eyes are the first thing they notice when looking at another person, particularly for the first time. This has been confirmed in studies of observers viewing human faces. Eyes convey our personality and we really want to be perceived as bright eyed and engaging.
Unfortunately, the skin around the eyes often show the signs of aging earlier than any part of the face. This is because the skin in this area is among the thinnest on the entire human body. Sun damage and personal habits such as smoking take a toll. Plus, fat deposits, loosening skin, and other issues can leave a person with droopy, sagging, puffy, wrinkled skin around the eyes, and with it, a much older appearance.
Blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery, with Dr. Chandler can take a decade off the age of your face. Eyelid surgery removes excess skin and fat, and tightens the underlying muscles as needed to return a younger, more rested look to the eyes.
Is Eyelid Surgery right for me? Am I a candidate for an Eyelid Lift?
Unlike most cosmetic surgery procedure, eyelid surgery is popular with both women and men. Drooping eyelids are equally irritating to both sexes. More and more men are having this surgery with Dr. Chandler. Often they tell us they feel as if they need to rejuvenate their eyes to keep up with younger counterparts in their workplace. No one wants to look worn out and tired — and blepharoplasty is an amazing way to look younger and engaging.
Blepharoplasty (Eye Lift) in Philadelphia
Eyelid surgery can be performed on both eyelids or singly, depending on your personal condition. Because of this, surgery can run anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.
Blepharoplasty is a delicate surgery that involves small incisions. In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Chandler makes a small incision in the natural crease of the eyelid. This conceals any scarring. He then tightens the muscle tissue, repositions the fat, and removes excess skin. Dr. Chandler is especially careful with removing fat to not give the patient the hollow look that you see with less successful procedures done elsewhere.
In the lower eyelid, the incision is oftne made just below the lower eyelash line. An alternative location can be making the incision inside the lower lid, removing any visible scarring. Excess skin is removed to lessen wrinkles, bags, and general puffiness in this area. This procedure is terrific for eye bag removal. The upper cheek and eye bags are tightened and smoothed and Dr. Chandler often includes a modified upper cheek lift when he performs lower eyelid surgery.
What is Recovery like from Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery with Dr. Chandler does not require a difficult recovery. When you return home after your surgery, your eyelids will be covered with light gauze. You will be given an eye lubricant and a cold compress. Bruising and swelling is minor, particularly if you are diligent with the compress. After about one week, your dissolving stitches are carefully cleaned and most of your healing will be done. There will be some residual swelling at times, but you’ll already love the way your eyes look. In 3 to 6 months the eyelid area will be healed and looking fabulous.
